Region E is pulling together some loose ends for several exciting events. More information will follow once all the details gel, but here is what we have for now. Save the following dates for continuing education workshops:

Some April 2010 in the morning – Scott Sanders, LMSW, Ph.D., Professor at Cornerstone University, will be presenting a 3 hour (pending approval) Ethics workshop. This will likely take place @ either Eaton or Clinton ISD. Sorry we don’t have a date or place firmed up yet – watch your e-mail!

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010 – All day (8:30pm – 4:00pm) Trauma/Resiliency Workshop: Adventure Healing “Search for Meaning” is the likely topic from TLC trained specialists. This workshop will offer 6 CE (pending approval) hours with a 1½ hour lunch that will double as our Region E Award Recognition and membership meeting. A meal will be catered and this will be held at the Livingston County ESA in Howell, MI. Thanks to Larisa Leader who secured this spot for us!

Thanks to Josh Smith, LMSW,
who presented a 3 hour CE workshop on DBT at the Ingham ISD. This was an excellent presentation of the theory behind the therapy and how to adapt DBT to the school setting.

Also, thanks to Beth Green for chairing the Awards Committee. Her committee consists of Ned Bromley, Teri Metros, Cassandra Coney-Stewart and Sherry Sande. Beth and her committee will be sending nomination requests to administrators in Region E School Districts. If you would like to nominate a School Social Work colleague, feel free to e-mail Beth and ask her what you need to make the nomination! ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Thanks as well to our Region E Membership Chair, Valerie Draper! She has purchased your gift to recognize your work during School Social Work Week in March. No, I won’t tell you what it is. You’ll have to wait.

Last, thanks to Past Region E President, Sheryl Smith, who is filling the vacant regional president position for the remainder of the term (ending June 30th, 2010). She has been attending State Board meetings and will be obtaining names of individuals interested in serving on the board (as President and Treasurer) for the April 28th election. If you are interested in serving MASSW Region E in these or any other capacity, feel free to contact Sheryl at her e-mail address: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Watch your e-mail for information as these events come together. Thanks to all who have provided time and talent in bringing all these things together!
